Where the climate crisis is won or lost

Cities produce over 70% of global CO₂ emissions and are home to three-quarters of the EU’s population. They are where the climate crisis is felt first, in heatwaves, polluted air and rising energy bills, and where it must be solved. TWINVERSE is built to help them do exactly that.

A living constellation of cities

Six European Mission cities (Milan, Cork, Kalamata, Lappeenranta, Turin and Vitoria-Gasteiz) are the bright points in the TWINVERSE constellation, connected by secure streams of data and AI. Each runs an AI-enhanced digital twin: a living, data-driven model of the city that lets planners test an idea, for example plant trees on a street, reroute traffic, warn residents before a heatwave, before changing anything in the real world. 

Cork, Ireland

Household energy use makes up 34% of Cork's emissions, with
data fragmented across departments.
TWINVERSE is building a citywide digital twin for retrofit planning, starting with real pilot sites across the city.

Kalamata, Greece

A coastal city exposed to heatwaves and floods, where heat, air quality and energy data sit in silos. TWINVERSE is building an AI-enhanced digital twin that maps risk neighbourhood by neighbourhood and warns the most vulnerable first.

Milan, Italy

Warmed +2.8°C since 2005, Milan faces rising urban heat and energy poverty, with the most vulnerable residents least able to keep cool. TWINVERSE is building an AI-enhanced digital twin to map risk and target relief where it's needed most.

Lappeenranta, Finland

Harsh winters make snow and ice clearing one of the city's most expensive, most fossil-fuel-heavy tasks. TWINVERSE is building AI-powered weather and street-condition forecasting to clear the right streets at the right time.

Vitoria-Gasteiz, Spain

52% of work trips here are by private car, driving congestion and emissions in one of Europe's greenest cities. TWINVERSE is building a mobility digital twin to test low-emission zones before they're rolled out.

Turin, Italy
